Reconstructed Sweet maps summer comeback plan

A reconfigured version of British glam-rock icons Sweet [ tickets ] will hit the road this summer behind bassist/vocalist Steve Priest, one of the band's original members. Now based in Woodland Hills, CA, the new Sweet lineup--which, in addition to Priest, features vocalist Joe Retta, Stuart Smith on guitar, keyboardist Stevie Stewart and drummer Richie Onari--will kick off the outing June 12 in Los Angeles. The group has so far lined up 11 dates over the summer months, including several appearances at music festivals in Canada. Details are below.Formed in the late '60s in England and originally known as The Sweetshop, the group enjoyed a run of chart success in the early- and mid-'70s, with hits including "Ballroom Blitz," "Fox on the Run," "Action" and "Love is Like Oxygen." The band's most well-known configuration--featuring Priest, lead singer Brian Connolly, guitarist Andy Scott and drummer Mick Tucker--split in 1979, leading to a large number of lineup changes over the years.A pair of brief reunions followed, most recently in 1990. Connolly died of liver failure in 1997, and Tucker passed away from leukemia in 2002. Scott has toured in recent years with his own version of the band, Andy Scott's Sweet. The group's final studio album, 1982's "Identity Crisis," was recorded after Connolly left the band.

Chris Rock - Chris Rock Smashes Comedy Audience Record

Comedian Chris Rock has broken British records for audience size after performing to 15,900 people at London's O2 Arena last night.

The Bigger and Blacker star has smashed the UK record for the largest comedy audience after his Friday stand-up show, the first of two performances on his new tour.

The previous record of 10,108 was set by Lee Evans at his show at the MEN Arena in Manchester in 2005.

But with Guinness World Records officials on hand to check official criteria had been satisfied, promoters announced after the show's conclusion that the record had been surpassed by more than 5,000 people.

David Campbell, CEO of O2 owner AEG Europe, said on Friday he had "absolute faith" that Rock would break the audience record for a comedian.

"He is the first stand-up comedy act to perform in the arena and it is doubly thrilling for us that he will be breaking a world record at the same time," he added.

Rock, 43, kicked off a UK tour in January 2008, performing for the first time outside his native US, and has returned for further shows this month.

However, Evans has the chance to break the comedy audience record when he too performs at the O2 in October.

The inspiration of Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist Nick Van Dyk (guitars, bass, keyboards), Redemption proudly unfurls the flag of American progressive metal, as proved by their imposingly rendered eponymous debut of 2003, likewise featuring vocalist Rick Mythiasin (ex-Steel Prophet and New Eden), bassist Jason Rullo (of Symphony X), and guitarist Bernie Versailles, on loanword from the legendary Fates Warning. For their second album, 2005's The Fullness of Time, Redemption gained an extra boost with the guest presence of Fates Warning singer Ray Alder, and bust in some other accomplished round section in bassist James Sherwood and drummer Chris Quirarte -- both at one time of prog rockers Prymary.

Happy Birthday Kylie: 40 milestones to mark 40 years

With a career spanning more than two decades, Aussie pop star Kylie Minogue has had her fair share of memorable moments. We mark 40 of them here:KYLIE'S MILESTONES* Kylie got her career start on Australian TV shows The Sullivans and The Henderson Kids and gave her first singing performance on Young Talent Time. While we're somewhat glad those shows never made it across the ditch, Kyles had to start somewhere, and we're glad she did.* When Kylie arrived on Ramsay St in 1986 as tomboy mechanic Charlene she became part of one of the greatest love stories on the boob tube. Scott (Jason Donovan) and Charlene's relationship took the soap's popularity to new heights, and ensured Neighbours trading cards became the new currency in the classroom.* Locomotion, her first hit, topped the charts in Australia and introduced her to British producers, Stock, Aitken and Waterman took Kylie to the next level of pop stardom.* Her cheesy duet with Jason Donovan, titled Especially for You was a major success in the United Kingdom in early 1989. Especially for You was also the first Kylie Minogue single to sell over 1 million copies in the UK.

* The gold hotpants. We don't really need to say any more, but we will. The miniscule lame shorts she wore in her Spinning Around video have gone down in music history, much like Jacko's glove and Lennon's glasses.* I should Be So Lucky - number two in a long stream of hits - set Kylie up for her career in incredibly-catchy-but-incredibly-annoying singles. (see: Can't Get You Outta My Head)* Where there are highs, there are also lows. The mid 90's could be described as a 'lull' in her career. Albums included Lets Get To It, Kylie Minogue and Impossible Princess.* A milestone with arguably the most impact was the moment Kylie was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005. She postponed her Showgirl tour and went into hiding in France for treatment. The media reacted with shock - in the UK tabloid The Sun devoted 7 pages to the news.* Portraying a murder victim in a haunting duet with Nick Cave (Where the Wild Roses Grow) upped Kylie's cool factor.* We think the fact that she has the ability to laugh, along with us, at her young self in films like The Delinquents, and Street Fighter, deserves recognition.* Another notable duet with man of the moment Robbie Williams on 2000 single Kids again increased her relevance in the new millennium.* Nominated for ten Brit awards over the years, she's walked away three so far.* While we don't claim that getting your bum felt up by pop hottie Justin Timberlake is a milestone, its definitely worth mentioning that Kyles gave an epic performance with JT at the 2003 Brit Awards. Their performance was as noteworthy for cheeky Justin copping a feel as it was their sparkling duet on Blondie hit Rapture.
